Suman (Kriti Kharbanda) is an ambitious young woman from a middle-class background who aspires to join the civil services. She falls in love with Satyendra “Sattu” Mishra (Rajkummar Rao), a principled government employee. They plan to marry, but on the eve of the wedding Suman’s father demands a larger dowry than agreed; when Satyendra refuses to pay, the marriage is called off and Suman’s reputation is damaged. Years later, their paths cross again: Satyendra, now in a position of authority, confronts the pain and consequences of that broken promise. The film follows their emotional journey as past misunderstandings and societal pressures resurface, testing forgiveness and the possibility of reconciliation.
