While the plot has shades of The Godfather , it is deeply rooted in the specific caste dynamics and geography of Southern Tamil Nadu. Unlike typical "masala" films where the hero fights generic bad guys, the conflict here is internal and familial. It is a tragedy about how environment shapes character.

The film tells the story of Velu (played by Kamal Haasan), a struggling writer who returns to his village after a long time. He's on a mission to find a successor to carry forward his family's legacy. Velu's journey becomes complicated when he's drawn into a local gang war between two factions, led by Muthusamy (played by R. N. Jayagopal) and Kumarasamy (played by Goundamani).
