In Poland, the ustawa o prawie autorskim i prawach pokrewnych (Copyright and Related Rights Act) imposes fines of up to 5,000 PLN (approx. $1,200 USD) for downloading copyrighted material without the rights holder’s consent. In Germany or the US, similar violations can lead to much higher civil lawsuits.
